The Citroën C3 Aircross has secured a 5-star safety rating for adult occupant protection and a 4-star rating for child occupant protection under India's Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (BNCAP). This achievement underscores Citroën's commitment to safety in the Indian automotive market. The tested variant was the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol automatic Max 5S, weighing 1,583 kg. The ratings apply to all 1.2-litre turbo-petrol versions in the 5-seater configuration.

Safety Performance in Bharat NCAP

In the BNCAP crash tests, the Citroën C3 Aircross demonstrated robust structural integrity and occupant protection. The vehicle scored 27.05 out of 32 points for adult occupant protection and 40 out of 49 points for child occupant protection. These scores reflect the vehicle's ability to safeguard occupants in various crash scenarios.

Adult Occupant Protection (AOP)

The Aircross achieved 11.05 out of 16 points in the frontal offset deformable barrier test and a full 16 out of 16 points in the side impact test. The vehicle's structure and footwell area were rated as stable, capable of withstanding further loadings. Protection levels for adult occupants were assessed as good to adequate across all body regions in both frontal and side impact tests. The SUV also performed well in the side pole test, providing full head protection with curtain airbags.

Child Occupant Protection (COP)

In child safety assessments, the Aircross achieved the maximum 24 out of 24 points in dynamic testing with Britax Römer i-Size child seats. Additionally, it received a perfect CRS (Child Restraint System) installation score of 12 out of 12. These results highlight the vehicle's commitment to ensuring the safety of younger passengers.

Standard Safety Features

All variants of the Citroën C3 Aircross come equipped with over 40 active and passive safety features, including:

Six airbags

Electronic Stability Control (ESC)

ISOFIX child seat anchors

Hill-Hold Assist

Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)

Three-point seat belts for all seats

These features contribute to the vehicle's high safety ratings and reflect Citroën's focus on occupant protection.

Implications for the Indian Automotive Market

The Citroën C3 Aircross's performance in the BNCAP crash tests sets a new benchmark for safety in the compact SUV segment. With the Indian government's push for higher safety standards, as evidenced by the implementation of the Bharat NCAP, manufacturers are increasingly prioritizing occupant protection. The Aircross's strong safety credentials may influence consumer preferences, encouraging a shift towards vehicles that offer enhanced safety features.
