Southern Industry Delegation Eyes Investment Opportunities at Sri City SEZ

A high-profile 22-member delegation from the Southern India Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) recently visited Sri City, a premier Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Andhra Pradesh, to explore potential business collaborations and investment avenues. During the visit on July 4, delegates were briefed on the region’s cutting-edge infrastructure, strategic location, and conducive policy environment. Officials emphasized Sri City's appeal as a thriving hub, already home to over 230 companies from 31 countries. The interaction reflects a growing interest among South Indian businesses to expand operations into industrial clusters offering global connectivity and scalable ecosystems.

Sri City’s Strategic Edge: Infrastructure, Location, and Global Footprint

Sri City, located on the Andhra Pradesh–Tamil Nadu border, continues to gain momentum as a sought-after destination for domestic and international manufacturing. Its proximity to major ports, seamless road and rail access, and multi-sector industrial base have helped position it as a magnet for investment.

Speaking to the SICCI delegation, Bogdan George, AVP of Business Development at Sri City, outlined the area’s competitive advantages. He noted that 235 companies representing 31 countries currently operate within the zone, a testament to its global appeal. Industries ranging from electronics and automotive to garments and consumer appliances are already thriving in the zone.

SICCI’s Visit: Strengthening Regional Business Synergies

The visit by the SICCI delegation marks an important step in strengthening interstate commercial cooperation. SICCI, one of India’s oldest and most influential regional business chambers, plays a pivotal role in guiding economic policy and business expansion across South India.

Ravindra Sannareddy, Founder and Managing Director of Sri City, welcomed the SICCI delegation’s presence, calling it “highly valuable.” He added that insights from regional business leaders would help shape Sri City’s development to be inclusive of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), not just large-scale corporations.

“Their feedback will help us tailor the ecosystem to better serve the broader business community,” he said.

Firsthand Industry Exposure: Learning from On-Ground Operations

During the visit, the SICCI delegation toured multiple operational units within Sri City, including manufacturing facilities of Blue Star Ltd. and MSR Garments. These site visits provided the delegation with firsthand exposure to world-class infrastructure, operational efficiency, and regulatory ease that define Sri City’s industrial fabric.

Elangovan Rajasekar, Director of Mentor Infocomm India and part of the delegation, shared his impressions: “We were thoroughly impressed by the scale, planning, and pro-business environment at Sri City. It’s an ideal destination for expanding operations or launching new ventures.”

The Broader Implication: Catalyzing SME Participation in SEZs

Traditionally dominated by large corporations, SEZs in India are increasingly being reimagined to accommodate the dynamic needs of SMEs and startup ecosystems. The SICCI delegation’s engagement signals a promising trend—smaller enterprises seeking scale through plug-and-play industrial zones.

With rising land costs and infrastructure limitations in urban centers, integrated industrial zones like Sri City provide a viable alternative. They offer cost-effective utilities, built-in logistics, streamlined approvals, and access to skilled labor pools—elements critical for SMEs to grow competitively.

Conclusion: A Convergence of Vision and Opportunity

The collaboration between industrial corridors like Sri City and influential chambers such as SICCI points to a convergence of regional vision and national industrial policy. As India seeks to deepen its manufacturing base and integrate more fully into global value chains, such interactions can catalyze investments, drive employment, and foster innovation.

The SICCI delegation’s enthusiastic response underscores Sri City's potential not just as an industrial hub, but as a model of sustainable and inclusive industrialization. With continued dialogue and strategic facilitation, Sri City is poised to play a central role in South India's economic transformation.
