JK Cement has cemented its presence in Jammu & Kashmir by acquiring a controlling 60% stake in Saifco Cements for Rs 150 crore, marking a significant foray into the region's burgeoning construction sector. The acquisition establishes JK Cement as the first major manufacturer to operate in Srinagar, a move hailed as a catalyst for regional economic empowerment. Saifco Cements, with an integrated plant in Khonmoh and annual revenues of Rs 73.17 crore, now becomes a subsidiary of JK Cement. The collaboration aims to unlock new opportunities and bolster infrastructure in Kashmir, while reinforcing JK Cement's leadership in India's cement industry.

JK Cement’s Strategic Move into Jammu & Kashmir

In a landmark transaction underscoring its expansion drive, JK Cement has acquired a 60% stake in Saifco Cements, a Srinagar-based cement manufacturer, for Rs 150 crore. This acquisition positions JK Cement as the first major player to establish manufacturing operations in the Kashmir Valley, signaling confidence in the region’s economic potential and a commitment to local development.

The transaction involves a payment of Rs 149.81 crore to Saifco’s promoters and to the company itself, securing majority ownership and management control of Saifco Cements. Following the deal’s completion, Saifco Cements has officially become a subsidiary of JK Cement.

Reshaping Saifco’s Management and Future

Under the new arrangement, the board of Saifco Cements will be reconstituted. JK Cement will appoint three additional directors, while two directors from the original promoter group will remain on the board. This structure aims to ensure a smooth transition and shared governance, while aligning both entities’ long-term vision for growth and regional development.

Saifco Cements, incorporated in 1997, operates an integrated manufacturing plant in Khonmoh, Srinagar. The facility has a clinker production capacity of 0.26 million tonnes per annum (MnTPA) and a grinding capacity of 0.42 MnTPA. In the fiscal year 2024-25, Saifco Cements reported a turnover of Rs 73.17 crore.

A Shared Vision for Kashmir’s Development

JK Cement Managing Director Raghavpat Singhania highlighted the acquisition as a strategic milestone that aligns with the company’s mission to harness the untapped potential of Jammu & Kashmir. “With our combined expertise, we aim to transform the region and ensure benefits for the communities,” he said, emphasizing the broader vision of regional upliftment through local manufacturing.

Echoing this sentiment, Saifco Cements Director Suhail Manzoor Guna noted that the partnership reflects a shared commitment to advancing infrastructure in Kashmir and creating meaningful economic opportunities. “This collaboration will enhance operational scale, unlock new potential, and pave the way for long-term progress in the region,” he added.

Strengthening JK Cement’s Position in the Industry

With this acquisition, JK Cement further bolsters its already robust portfolio. The company commands a total grey cement capacity of 24.34 MnTPA, along with a white cement capacity of 1.12 MnTPA and a wall putty capacity of 1.33 MnTPA, positioning it as one of India’s leading cement manufacturers.

The foray into Jammu & Kashmir underscores JK Cement’s strategy of expanding its presence in high-growth markets while fostering inclusive economic development. As the deal takes effect, the company is poised to leverage the synergy of its advanced technologies and Saifco’s local expertise, setting the stage for a transformative chapter in the region’s construction and infrastructure landscape.

This decisive acquisition by JK Cement signals not just business expansion, but a vision for regional empowerment and inclusive growth. As operations commence, all eyes will be on how this partnership reshapes the economic narrative of Jammu & Kashmir and contributes to India’s broader infrastructure ambitions.
