Amarnath Yatra Suspended From August 3 Amid Weather and Security Concerns

Authorities have announced the suspension of the annual Amarnath Yatra beginning August 3, citing a combination of inclement weather conditions and precautionary security measures. The decision comes after weeks of sustained pilgrim activity through treacherous mountainous terrain, with thousands having already completed the journey to the sacred Amarnath cave shrine. Officials confirmed that the move aims to ensure the safety of remaining pilgrims and personnel in view of emerging challenges along the route.

Jammu & Kashmir Declares ‘No Flying Zone’ Over Amarnath Yatra Routes Amid Heightened Security Measures

In anticipation of the 2025 Amarnath Yatra, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has imposed a stringent no-fly order across both traditional pilgrimage routes — Pahalgam and Baltal — from July 1 to August 10. The directive, issued by the Union Territory’s Home Department under the leadership of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, prohibits the use of aerial devices including drones, UAVs, and balloons. The move comes in response to prevailing security concerns, particularly in the aftermath of a fatal terror attack earlier this year.

Amarnath Yatra 2025: Reduced Duration, Enhanced Security, and New Guidelines

The Shri Amarnath Yatra, one of the most significant religious pilgrimages in India, will be held from July 3 to August 9, 2025, with a reduced duration of 38 days. This year, the government has ramped up security, deploying 581 companies from Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and implementing state-of-the-art safety measures, including jammers and surveillance drones. In addition, new age and health restrictions have been introduced for pilgrims. The Yatra will also coincide with the launch of the Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express, enhancing connectivity to the pilgrimage site.
